🤠 Texas Rolls — Soft, Fluffy, Sweet Butter Heaven

Ingredients

ROLLS

  • 1 packet dry active yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)

  • ¼ cup warm water

  • ½ cup milk

  • ½ cup buttermilk

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • Pinch of salt

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons softened unsalted butter

HONEY CINNAMON BUTTER

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

  • 2 teaspoons honey

  • 1 tablespoon confectioners sugar


Instructions

  1. Wake up the yeast:
    Mix your yeast with warm water and let it get foamy and happy.

  2. Warm the good stuff:
    Heat the milk and buttermilk just until warm, then stir in the softened butter so it melts right in.

  3. Build the dough:
    Combine the milk mixture with the yeast, sugar, salt, and some of the flour. Mix until it starts looking like dough.

  4. Add the egg:
    Crack in your egg and mix again. Slowly add the rest of the flour until the dough is soft and smooth.

  5. Rise & shine:
    Let the dough rise until doubled — fluffy and ready to roll.

  6. Shape the rolls:
    Roll the dough out and cut or shape into your favorite Texas-sized rolls.

  7. Final rise:
    Let the shaped rolls rise again until puffy.

  8. Bake:
    Pop them in the oven at 400°F for 12–15 minutes, or until golden and irresistible.

  9. Make the butter:
    Mix the softened butter, cinnamon, honey, and confectioners sugar.
    Warning: You’ll want to spread this on everything.


Notes

  • Instant yeast works too — skip the warm water step.

  • Store leftover rolls in an airtight container.

  • They freeze beautifully, so make a double batch if you’ve got the time!
